Category: About Sprint Fidelis Defibrillator Lead Lines

Many people tend to confuse defibrillators and pacemakers and it is important to understand that they are not the same medical device and they serve very different purposes.

Defibrillators are used to treat heart rhythms that are too fast, while pacemakers are used to treat heart rhythms that are too slow.

The devices themselves are configured differently.

Over 250,000 defibrillators (varying designs) have been implanted in patients since 1985, while over two million pacemakers have been implanted in patients since 1960.

Medtronic has been the industry leader of heart defibrillators and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) as well as several other medical devices. Sprint Fidelis Leads have been used since 2004.

For more information about medical devices, please refer to our section on Medical Devices & Implants.
