Medtronic Inc. was awarded $250 million, by a federal jury, in a patent dispute with medical device competitor Boston Scientific.
The Texas jury found Boston Scientific guilty of infringing on three of Medtronic's patents covering technology to implant heart stents that are used in artery-clearing surgeries.
One of the four claims that Medtronic brought against the company was dismissed early on in the trial, which began on May 16th.
Boston Scientific is hopeful that they will raise new defenses, not yet heard by jurors on July 31. If those arguments do not cause the verdict to be overturned, the company plans to have the ruling overturned in post-trial motions.
If necessary the company is prepared to appeal.
