A Canada man who has suffered many heart attacks and lives a long distance from medical assistance became the first patient to receive a remote defibrillator.
He is able to keep a better quality of life yet be remotely monitored over the Internet by the Southlake Region Health Center where he had the lifesaving defibrillator, made by Medtronic, implanted.
The new defibrillator, the size of a stopwatch, is a Vision 3D device and will measure the patient's heartbeat. If his heart stops, the device will administer a shock to restart the heart.
Additionally the device has features to support long distance monitoring so his doctors can see how he is doing.
