Pacemakers monitor the patient's heart to treat a condition called bradycardia (a slow, irregular or interrupted heartbeat).

When the device detects a problem in the patient's heart rhythm, it sends out small, undetectable electrical signals to correct and restore the heart to a normal range.

Bradycardia usually lasts under a minute. At this rate the heart is not able to efficiently distribute enough oxygen-rich blood to the patient's body during normal exercise and activity. As a result, the patient will begin to feel dizzy, low energy levels, shortness of breath and sometimes common fainting spells occur.

A Medtronic pacemaker sends electrical signs to help restore the patient's heart rhythm to help them to feel better and keep their heart functioning properly.
